Popular Nature Trails in the Central New York AreaPosted: Aug 12 in Getting Active by Wendy Scinta
Weight loss and exercise go hand in hand. Most of us find it challenging to fit exercise into our day, but a few hours wandering through nature trails on the weekend can go a long way toward meeting your weekly activity requirements as well as relieving some stress and spending time with family and friends.
When you think of New York, your mind may first jump to the big city–the Big Apple. If you think of nature trails in New York, maybe you conjure an image of jogger-filled Central Park. Think outside of the city for a moment, and you may remember that New York State is a very large state with many different towns and parks.
Here are a few of the more popular nature trails in central New York State.
Green Lakes State Park: With an 18 hole golf course, the 10 miles of nature trails at Green Lakes State Park combine fun with function. In the winter, cross country skiers can enjoy the trails. The park also has boat rentals and a campground.
Delta Lake State Park: Delta Lake State Park has many nature and hiking trails. They also have areas for trout and other fishing as well as sandy beaches. In the winter, you can enjoy their cross country ski trails.
Buttermilk Falls State Park: Enjoy the waterfall as Buttermilk Creek falls down the valley side to Cayuga Lake in a stunning display. Then, walk the nature trail and wind your way through a New York wetland and shady area.
