What to Do When Your Kids Don’t Want to Exercise

With obesity on the rise, it’s more important than ever to make sure that your children are eating healthy and exercising right. Unfortunately, that’s much easier said than done. Most children would rather be inside playing video games than outside playing sports. For parents, this can turn into a constant power struggle. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to encourage your children to lose weight in Syracuse. Here are a few tips that you can use to make the experience joyful rather than miserable.

One of the greatest ways to get children interested in exercising is to think outside the box. Not everyone enjoys playing on a team, and games like soccer or football can be hard for young children to learn. Involve your child in the decision to become more active and have them suggest a sport or hobby that they are interested in.

Parents can also encourage weight loss by joining in and offering exercise as a reward. For example, if you notice your child is struggling with their homework, offer to take a break and play some basketball. Kids can also be challenged to play against adults, making it competitive, yet fun.

For many children, the amount of time spent watching TV and playing on the internet directly affects their weight level. This can all be prevented by limiting the TV or Internet time to two or three hours a day. Studies have shown that children who spend less time online often exercise more and weigh less. Better yet, make them exercise for screen time.

With obesity contributing to several potentially life threatening conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, it’s more important than ever for parents to encourage all forms of exercise. By doing so you allow your child to go on and live a much longer, healthier life.
