I have been battling with my weight since high school. In the past I have tried a wide variety of weight loss programs; Weight Watchers, South Beach, Dr. Atkins, exercising as much as two hours a day, and even diet pills. While I would see some loss it was difficult to maintain and the weight would return. Recently I was working out with a personal trainer. Instead of losing weight, I gained. After injuring my foot and laying off the exercise I added even more weight. Frustrated I went to see my doctor, who identified me as “obese” and referred me to Medical Weight Loss of NY. [Read more]

While many children are benefitting from the support of physician supervised medical weight loss, Syracuse and Fayetteville are filled with children who are not yet benefitting from this service. A lot of children go to school and back home every day without ever stepping into a doctor’s office for a regular check-up, and this can be very dangerous for a lot of kids who grow up to be adults without ever realizing that they are at risk for serious health conditions. [Read more]

How did that chicken nugget taste? You know-- the one that you picked up off of your child’s plate before tossing it into the dishwasher. What about the left-over French fries at lunch or the melting ice cream cone that was handed off to you at the park? Medical weight loss in Syracuse and Fayetteville can help the whole family develop healthier eating habits, but being honest with yourself is one of the first steps that you will need to take—and that includes counting the calories that are hidden in those extra bites. [Read more]

Lately, a lot of talk has been circulating about recent research claiming that sugar is toxic and addictive. If you are like many Americans, then this claim may cause numerous red flags to go off in your head. While we understand that sugar is not a healthy choice, it is hard to understand how something that is such a large part of our diet could be toxic. [Read more]

Bullying is a much more common problem than many parents realize. As you turn on the television and watch cliché examples of small kids in big glasses being shoved into lockers it can be easy to think of bullying as something that is dramatized, something that is not a real issue that requires concern. [Read more]

Six months ago, I looked and felt much different than today. My husband, Neil, and I started with Dr. Scinta and the full meal replacement plan at the end August last year. At that time, April seemed like a lifetime away and I thought I wouldn’t be thinner because everything else I had ever tried, practically failed or I had just given up. But April is here and I couldn’t be happier with the results for the both of us. [Read more]

There’s a big culprit in the metabolic process that has popped up in the last 20-30 years—high fructose corn syrup, which has been used in an increasing number of food products since its introduction to the U.S. in 1975. To understand why this is important when it comes to your child’s weight, here’s a short biology and history lesson on the nature of sugar. [Read more]

It is hard enough for teenagers to grow up in a society where looks and body image are held at such a high degree of importance. Now imagine having to grow up not only as a teenager in today’s society but as obese, too. Teenagers today are constantly surrounded by negative impressions or stereotypes of obese people. These pressures cause some teens to take a stance and lose weight so they can live a healthier and happier life. [Read more]

A simple miscalculation could be the difference in classifying a truly obese person as overweight. This is not to be taken lightly when being obese significantly increases your chances of developing life-threatening cholesterol, blood pressure and heart issues. Researchers suggest about 39 percent of Americans who are currently classed as slightly overweight are, in fact, obese. [Read more]
