Get out There! Being Social can Help you Lose Weight

All too often, problems with our weight or a negative self-perception can cause us to curl up into our own little shells. While having a bit of time to yourself when you are feeling down can be a good thing, it is important to balance your personal time with positive, active social time. If you are trying to lose weight through medical weight loss, then it is especially important to realize that being more social can actually enhance your weight loss efforts.

There are a number of ways that you can become more social as you lose weight. One way is to find a weight loss support group either in your community or online. This is a great way to meet others that have similar experiences and battles as you.

When you are trying to lose weight, make it a point to be open with the friends and family members whom you trust about your efforts. While you may consider your battle with obesity a private one, by letting your friends in on your weight loss experience you can make the journey a more social one. Your friends and family may even be able to act as a support network and help to keep you accountable to your weight loss goals.

Another way to be social as you lose weight is to start the journey with a weight loss buddy. By taking the time to become healthier with a friend, you can start to treat your body well while also developing a closer relationship with someone.

Don’t fight the battle of your bulge on your own. By letting others into your life at the times that you need support you may find that you have a stronger social network than you were aware of at the start!
